Matthew Beekman of Boyertown selected as an Ag Ambassador

2014 Dec 22

Matthew Beekman, an environmental science major who is minoring in agribusiness, will represent Delaware Valley College's School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences as the 2015 Ag Ambassador

Beekman is from Boyertown, Pennsylvania. On campus, he works for The Office of Admission providing tours for prospective students. He is also a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, the Student Government Board, Collegiate Future Farmers of America and Horticulture Club. At home, he works on his family's farm, Beekman Orchards, and also, serves his community as an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America. Beekman has interned with the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The Ag Ambassadors program is in its 22nd year. Ag Ambassadors are chosen based on academic performance, leadership qualities, and their knowledge and experience in agriculture. They educate the community about the importance of agriculture and the food system, encourage youth to consider careers in the field, and highlight how agricultural science can help solve the many challenges of a growing population. They represent the College at campus and public events, meet with industry leaders, public officials, and high school students, and participate in state-sponsored events such as the opening ceremony of the Pennsylvania Farm Show.

"Matt represents the very best of DelVal and will be an outstanding Ag Ambassador," said Russell Redding, dean of agriculture and environmental sciences. "His willingness to use his life experiences to help advocate for students and the College is very much appreciated."
