Building the Food Science and Technology Workforce
For those who love food and science, DelVal's Food Science and Technology Program prepares you for a multitude of growing career opportunities.
Doylestown, PA (10/20/2026) — As the food industry evolves daily with new technology and product development, Delaware Valley University continues to graduate students who are prepared for success in this growing industry. The Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology has producted many successful alumni in areas across the food industry, from small, regional cheesemakers to global food manufacturing, to product safety and regulatory issues.
Led by Laura Herbst, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Agribusiness and Food Science Technology, the program at DelVal has had a 100% job placement rate at graduation for at least the past eight years.
"Food manufacturers and others in the industry are looking for people who have hands-on experience in the chemistry and biology pasts of food production," said Herbst. "They know that students at DelVal are learning, creating and testing in our food laboratories from their first year of study."
For example, Tori Bockrath '26 graduated this past May from the Food Science program. Bockrath initially aspired to be a chef, but her parents wanted her to get a degree first. After working hands-on in DelVal's labs, Bockrath fell in love with the food science industry and was hired immediately upon graduation at Gorgeous Goat Creamery as a cheesemaker.
DelVal's food science graduates are well-prepared for a variety of roles within the food science and technology industry. Kurt Yasenchak '14, for example, currently works a regulatory intelligence scientist at The Campbell's Company.
"I read laws that are put out. I do a little foresight into laws that I think will come out and I give direction to the company based on the things that I'm reading," said Yasenchak.
Throughout their time at DelVal, students are learning in dedicated food science laboratories and kitchens in courses that are specified by the Institute of Food Technologists. Students have internships and employment opportunities at top companies including The Campbell's Company, Clemens Food Group, Turkey Hill, Ocean Spray, the Food and Drug Administration and many others.
