The Delaware Valley Branch of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (DVB AALAS) J.J. Noonan Scholarship is awarded based on merit, achievement and need to students pursuing a laboratory animal science degree at local schools and colleges. The scholarship intends to further students' education in the laboratory animal science field. DelVal students comprised 75% of this year's total recipients.

The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its major conference awards, recognizing four Delaware Valley women's soccer players with All-Conference honors. Jess Williamson, Viola Anderson, Olivia Ball, and Mari Colosimo were all named to the All-MAC Freedom teams. Anderson and Williamson each earned first team honors while Ball and Colosimo were honorable mentions.

These students were honored for academic achievement by being named to the Dean's List for the Fall 2021 semester.

Christian Anderson '21, a Delaware Valley University pre-professional biology major from Ballston Spa, New York, has been accepted to Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. "I am overjoyed to have been accepted to Cornell," said Anderson. "I could not have succeeded without the wonderful opportunities provided by DelVal, both in the classroom and out." Anderson grew up seeing someone he looked up to practicing veterinary medicine. "My uncle who is a veterinarian went to DelVal for undergraduate school," said Anderson. "Hearing so many good things from him about the small class sizes and the professors was really helpful in making my decision to attend DelVal." When he arrived at DelVal, Anderson quickly got involved in campus life. He is president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of Impact, a Christian student organization. He is also a member of the Pre-Vet Club and treasurer of the Class of 2021. Anderson gained additional leadership experience by serving on Student Government Board and serving as the liaison between the students and the academic curriculum committee. He also got to know his professors and gained valuable experience in his field, which helped him when applying to veterinary school. "DelVal made me get out and spend time in my field and try things that I wouldn't have tried otherwise," said Anderson. "I think the research experience I gained at DelVal helped me. My professors were wonderful. They helped me by writing recommendations and giving me advice. There were veterinarians on the faculty who could guide me through the process of pursuing vet school from the day I arrived." Anderson applied what he was learning in the classroom by participating in the Experience360 Program, DelVal's award-winning experiential learning program. Through the program, DelVal undergraduates complete a variety of experiential learning activities. For his E360 activities, Anderson participated in Student Research and Study Abroad. During his study abroad experience, through Loop Abroad, he shadowed veterinarians at a nature preserve in Australia. He also worked at Valley Central, a veterinary hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania. "I will be bringing that hands-on knowledge into veterinary school," said Anderson. "Delaware Valley University has a wonderful reputation among the veterinary schools of having prepared students who know what they are getting themselves into. DelVal makes sure that reputation is maintained. If you go to DelVal, you are going to be prepared for veterinary school if you're willing to put in the work." After veterinary school, Anderson intends to serve in the United States Army Veterinary Corps. "This path will allow me to serve areas that are less well to do," said Anderson. "I will be able to help farmers with their animals, which helps with relations. A big part of this goal is wanting to serve people. Veterinary medicine isn't just about the animals. It's about the people who are impacted when veterinary care is available as well."

Jalene Beach '21, a Delaware Valley University student from New Church, Virginia, was offered early acceptance to Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Her dream of becoming a veterinarian started at an early age. "There's a picture of me when I was in first-grade dressed up like a veterinarian," said Beach. "I started volunteering at a veterinary clinic at 14 and that is what really solidified my interest." At DelVal, Beach gained experiences and formed relationships that helped her achieve her goal of getting into a top veterinary program. When she was looking at schools, DelVal's strong animal science program, opportunities to work with animals, and small class sizes stood out to her. Beach gained experience in her field and refined her career goals by participating in the Experience360 Program, DelVal's award-winning experiential learning program. Through the program, DelVal undergraduates complete a variety of experiential learning activities. For her E360 activities, Beach participated in leadership, career exploration and study abroad. During a study abroad trip to Belize, she worked alongside veterinarians helping with vaccinations for animals such as cattle, swine and horses. She also assisted with surgeries at small animal spay and neuter clinics. Seeing the veterinarians in action made her want to follow in their footsteps and take her veterinary skills abroad. "I just really want to serve," said Beach. "I'm passionate about making a difference for people who don't have the luxuries we have in the United States." She said her study abroad experiential learning activity helped her refine her career goals. "I want to serve in the United States Army Veterinary Corps," said Beach. "The Belize trip is one of the reasons I want to do Army veterinary medicine. I want to use my skills to help communities around the world. I chose the Army because I want to serve my country and because it's a good leadership opportunity."

Hosted by Alex Boylan, winner of "The Amazing Race," the series tells the stories of colleges and universities around the world. Each episode focuses on a single college or university and covers campus life, academics, housing, sports, activities, and much more. Emmy-nominated and award-winning TV producers visited the DelVal campus in April 2021 to film 10 students who shared their stories about what it's truly like to be an Aggie.
