DelVal Men's Basketball Wins MAC Freedom Championship and Will Take on No. 1 Wesleyan in NCAA Tournament
Head Coach Muhamadou Kaba was named Coach of the Year, Junior Antonio Redding Earned Co-Player of the Year and the Aggies Won the MAC Freedom for the First Time since 2016
Doylestown, PA (03/06/2025) — The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team capped an unforgettable season with a 64-63 victory over top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology to win its first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom title since 2016, earning the Aggies a bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
The Aggies (15-12, 8-6 MAC Freedom) will take on the No. 1 team in the country, Wesleyan University (26-1, 10-0 NESCAC) in the first round of the tournament Friday at 7 p.m. at Wesleyan.
Fourth-year head coach Muhamadou Kaba was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Coach of the Year, and junior guard Antonio Redding earned co-Player of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday. Redding also took home the conference tournament MVP award after averaging 25 points per game and making 10 3-pointers in two games.
Redding is the first Aggie men's basketball player to earn Player of the Year honors since Chris Moran in the 2015-16 season. Redding led all players in NCAA basketball, across all divisions, in 3-point shooting at 51.6% (81-for-157) and ranked fourth in Division III in free throw shooting at 91.2%, missing just five attempts all season. He propelled the Aggies to the NCAA playoffs with his game-winning shot, a step-back jumper from the elbow, with less than 10 seconds left in the conference championship game.
After going 2-12 in MAC Freedom play last season, coach Kaba and his squad were picked to finish last in the conference in preseason coaches' poll. The turnaround from worst to first was sealed with a stretch of seven wins in the final eight games of the season, including two wins over No. 1 seed Stevens in a span of 10 days. The Aggies finished league play 8-6 this year to finish as the two-seed heading into the conference playoffs.
DelVal men's basketball will attempt to become the first team other than football in school history to win an NCAA tournament game. The game can be viewed at https://www.ncaa.com/game/6385272. Live stats are available at https://athletics.wesleyan.edu/sidearmstats/mbball/summary.
