Delaware Valley University Master Beekeeper Awarded Eastern Apicultural Society's Charles and Evelyn Divelbiss Education Award

The Award is presented to an individual or couple who has, over a period of years, reached out to the non-beekeeping public to explain the value of honey bees in our lives.

Doylestown, PA (10/29/2026) — Delaware Valley University is proud to announce that Master Beekeeper and Adjunct Professor Vincent Aloyo was awarded the Eastern Apicultural Society's Charles and Evelyn Divelbiss Education Award. According to the Eastern Apicultural Society (EAS), the Divelbiss Award is presented to a "person or couple who has-over a period of years-reached out to the non-beekeeping community to explain the value of honey bees in our lives."

Aloyo's love for beekeeping stems from his undergraduate years when he was looking for a course to fill his schedule. An upperclassman recommended he take beekeeping and that one course turned into a lifelong passion. Now, he has been keeping bees for over 55 years.

Aloyo is a member of the EAS, a master beekeeper, manager of DelVal's Apiary, an adjunct professor and the advisor for DelVal's Apiary Society, a campus club dedicated to learning beekeeping. He teaches DelVal's apiculture course, oversees student research and offers hands-on learning and working opportunities at the Apiary. He has also taught at other colleges and universities, instructs intermediate beekeeping for a local association, and runs his own beekeeping education and consulting business. In 2020, he was recognized as Beekeeper of the Year by PA State Beekeepers.

"I am so honored to receive this award," said Aloyo. "At the conference, I heard them talking about the guy who was going to receive the award and thought 'wow that guy has really done a lot' and then that guy turned out to be me. It was a huge surprise and I am so honored."
