DelVal Students and Staff Honored by DVB AALAS

DelVal students and staff recognized for academic achievement, training and animal welfare leadership

Doylestown, PA (09/17/2025) — Delaware Valley University faculty, staff and students were recognized Sept. 10 for their achievements by the Delaware Valley Branch of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (DVB AALAS) for their accomplishments in the field of laboratory animal science.

DVB AALAS, a branch of the national American Association for Laboratory Animal Science since 1960, is committed to excellence and innovation in laboratory animal science by promoting education and training, encouraging open communication, and sharing information on the benefits of humane care and use of animals in biomedical research.

"We are incredibly proud of our students, faculty and staff for the important work they do in our labs. Their accomplishments reflect the strong foundation in hands-on learning and animal welfare that we value at DelVal, and help shape the future of laboratory animal science," said Dr. Broc Sandelin, dean of agriculture and environmental science at DelVal.

Becky Hughes, manager of the Small Animal Science Center at DelVal, received the Source Center Inc. Dr. Robert A. Roosa Regulatory Compliance Award. The award honors outstanding accomplishment in regulatory compliance in support of the laboratory animal science.

Three DelVal students received the J.J. Noonan Scholarship:

Kaitlyn Jackson, small animal science major, animal science minor, Class of 2025

Kaleigh Lynch, zoo science major, honors program, Class of 2028

Elizabeth Oresto, small animal science major, Class of 2027

The scholarship is awarded based on merit, achievement and need to students pursuing a laboratory animal science degree at local schools and colleges. The scholarship intends to further students' education in the laboratory animal science field. DelVal students comprised 75% of this year's total recipients.

Julia Krout, assistant professor of animal biotechnology and conservation at DelVal, was also recognized. She was installed as president of DVB AALAS for 2025-26 after serving as vice president in 2024. Krout also received the ACTS Training and Education Award, which honors individuals whose primary responsibility involves training and education in laboratory animal science and who demonstrate a commitment to advancing animal welfare through educational opportunities.
