Doylestown VIA Partners with Delaware Valley University to Create New Counseling Psychology Scholarship

New $15,000 scholarship will support a DelVal graduate student preparing for a career in mental health care

Doylestown, PA (10/16/2025) — The Village Improvement Association of Doylestown (VIA) has partnered with Delaware Valley University (DelVal) to establish a new scholarship supporting a student pursing a graduate degree in counseling psychology.

The $15,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student in the counseling psychology master's program. The total scholarship amount will be disbursed over the course of the three-year program, giving the student $5,000 per year. The agreement was formally signed on Wednesday, October 1, by Joe Fiochetta, DelVal's Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs, and Linda King, VIA Scholarship Committee Chair. Kevin Ladden, DelVal's Major Gift Officer, and Pat Urban, VIA Marketing Committee Chair were also in attendance for the signing.

The VIA reached out to DelVal to create this scholarship as part of its new initiative focused on bringing awareness and support to those living with mental illness. By investing in a student preparing for a career in counseling psychology, the VIA hope to expand access to mental health professional and create more opportunities for individuals living with mental illness ot find the support they need.

"The VIA is committed to supporting initiatives that improve the well-being of our community, and this scholarship reflects our dedication to mental health awareness and care."

"We are grateful to the VIA for this generous gift. Their support not only helps make education more affordable for our students, but it also highlights the importance of the counseling psychology major and the impact our graduates can have on the local community," said Fiochetta.

The scholarship will be awarded beginning in the upcoming academic year, continuing the VIA's long tradition of strengthening community health and DelVal's commitment to supporting students' success from every angle.
